Kruger National Park - South Africa's premier wildlife sanctuary covers more than 20,000km sq (7720 sq miles) Because this vast, wild expanse encompasses many different habitats, it is a haven for more varieties of wildlife than any other conservation area in Africa. Among the app 140 mammal species occurring here are the Big five: lion (app 1500) Elephant (app 8000) leopard (app 1000) buffalo (app 25,000) and both black and white rhino. Other wildlife populations include zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo & crocodile, as well as some 500 bird species. If you are lucky you may even spot a pack of the increasingly rare wild dogs.

Overnight visitors in Kruger National Park have a choice of 20 or so comfortable, tree-shaded rest camps. Smaller and more intimate are bush camps and lodges priced to suit all budgets.. Private Game Lodges provide luxury, personal service and superb game-viewing.

Travel Tips for the Kruger National Park:

Malaria treatment should be started prior to entering this area (consult your physician) and use insect repellent.
Stay on designated roads and tracks.
Keep to the speed limit, for tar 50km/h, for gravel 40km/h.
Do not leave your vehicle.
Don't injure, feed or disturb wildlife.
Littering is an offence.
Arrive at your rest camp by the stipulated time.
